Music in Early America was as varied as the people who occupied the land. Newspapers from the large cities all have advertisements for a selection of instruments and printed music, and the wealthy patronized these shops for the latest fashions. But the music that captivates Robert the most is the simple songs and melodies from the folk traditions. The most popular social activity of the day was dancing, and an enormous body of tunes was employed to accomany these importatnt fuctions; many have been preserved in written collections and Robert has spent years gathering them to play upon his antique and period instruments. The result is one of the most authentic presentations imaginable, and audiences are delighted with the results. Robert is available for concerts, lectures and demonstrations and he has many years experience performing background music for corporate events that are looking for a historical theme. |
